Calvary Baptist Christian School Academics

Academic Excellence is one of our foundational strengths. Calvary Baptist Christian School’s curriculum was chosen to meet the standards of our students mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Kindergarten

We offer K4 half day, full day, half day 3 days a week, or full day 3 days a week. We offer a full-day or half-day K5 program which provides excellent early childhood learning experiences. The intensive phonics emphasis from the A Beka curriculum helps our students learn to read before they march down the aisle at Kindergarten graduation.

Elementary (Grades 1-5)

These elementay years focus on building strong foundation in all subject areas: Bible, reading, phonics, mathematics, English grammar, spelling, science, history/geography, and penmanship. We use a combination of curriculum publishers: A Beka Book and Bob Jones Press. Fine arts preparations begin in the elementary years with vocal music taught in each grade and instrumental music beginning in fourth grade. Students in 5th grade begin to participate in many activities with the middle school grades.

Middle School (Grades 6-8)

Students in grades 6-8 are offered a challenging academic program along with special extra-curricular subjects such as band, choir, physical education, and speech. CBCS middle school students are given many opportunities to develop leadership amontg the other students and to exhibit a servant’s heart towards others.

Support Classroom

The support classroom exists to provide assistance to students who have unique needs or identified disabilities. The support classroom teachers work closely with the other teachers to develop and implement a plan for instruction and help for students enrolled in the support classroom.

Technology

A variety of technology tools are regularly used in classrooms at CBCS, including interactive displays and Chromebook carts. Students are given opportunities to practice keyboarding skills beginning in 3rd grade. They continue to develop those skills along with other practical computer skills through middle school.

Achievement Tests

Striving to have a strong academic program is a high priority and foundational goal. Our rigorous curricula assists our students with meeting and exceeding state and national achievement standards.

We utilize the Iowa Test of Basic Skills to evaluate our students’ cognitive progress in kindergarten through second grade. This rigourous and nationally normed achievement test provides an external measurement of academic quality. The Wisconcsin Forward Exam is utilized to evaluate our students’ congitive progress as well as the strength of our academic offerings in third through eighth grades.
